Terms of Endearment Larry McMurtry 9780752834559 Books
This book is nothing but endless senseless bickering by ridiculous overdrawn characters. Page after page after page till you simply can't believe this absolute boring trash got published. I kept hoping that something, anything, would happen but by half way through I was skipping paragraphs and finally I was skipping pages. Finally at page 363, it became a story of what happened to Emma. Too late for me to care much. The movie says it was "based" on this book. It bears almost no resemblance to this book. The screen writer took the title and a few of the characters, a couple of the incidents, threw the rest of the book in the trash can and then created the script for the very fine movie. If they had changed the title of the movie nobody would have recognized this book in that movie.Tags : Terms of Endearment [Larry McMurtry] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. McMurtry is no Hemingway, Handke, or Beattie, but it's an okay read.
Very Awesome Book and the Movie is also Awesome. Have a Box of Puffs handy because yo will need it. It is a journey with a Mom and her Daughter. Thumbs Up!!!!!!!!!!!
The movie was great, but the book is also great!
Larry McMurtry has written many books, most of them good some of them are actually quite bad. But he has also written a handful of great novels, Lonesome Dove, Duanes depressed, The last picture show and Terms of Endearment. The women he writes about in these novels Aurora, Karla and Clara are endowed with such energy that they are forces of nature. The others like Patsy and especially Emma are friends you wish you had made. The women in McMurtrys novels are the stars that his male characters simply revolve around.
I love the story, the book gives the characters much more depth to their personalities. A really good summer read by the pool!
Generally the books are better than their adaptations, but I have to say, the movie here was. Even trying to picture Shirley Mclain as Aurora didn't help.
A wonderfully creative story with interesting, fleshed-out characters galore. I grew to love several, to like many, and to learn from them all. If you don't emerge from this very realistic voyage of a family knowing you must Seize The Day, then you're hopeless. I hate to see it end.
