Warrior Freelancer Book 2 eBook Terry Irving Nick Castle

I saw that this book was released recently, and it piqued my interest. Set in the 70’s, during the conflict at Wounded Knee (a moment in history that I was not entirely familiar with before reading this), it centers around Rick Putnam, who is a motorcycle courier, and his girlfriend Eve Buffalo Calf. Both of which obviously hit the jackpot in the “Super Rad Name” competition. They stop in the small town of Wounded Knee, to help some activist friends of Eve’s, bringing them supplies and such. And since it would be a little boring of a story if things worked out perfectly, things actually don’t work out perfectly, when they find themselves being chased by a cult, who is intent on killing them.

As I said, I wasn’t very familiar with the Wounded Knee incident, but I was intrigued all the same. I did a little research (see: Wikipedia) before digging too far, so I had a broad idea, and I think that it doesn’t really matter how much knowledge you have before reading this, that you will enjoy it all the same. Terry Irving does a spectacular job of painting a picture of the time period, and filling the reader in on the tumultuous time period. The characters of Rick and Eve are fantastic from start to finish. Another reviewer mentioned that Rick reminded them of a Liam Neeson-type of character, a la the Taken franchise, and I think that is a perfect comparison.

Overall, I enjoyed this book greatly. If you’re looking for a great political thriller with motorcycles, then you’ve come to the right place with your very specific needs!

Warrior Freelancer Book 2 eBook Terry Irving Nick Castle Reviews

There was a lot more going on in this novel that first met the eye, and while I wasn't immediately drawn to Rick, he certainly grew on me, particularly because he is about as honorable as they come, despite being more than rough around the edges. I didn't know much about the history of Wounded Knee, but this book was chock full of intriguing historical anecdotes and a modern twist on an old issue. Activism is always an interesting subject to read about, particularly as I dabble in the occasional tree-hugging campaign, and seeing a rough and tumble hero like Rick take on ignorance, corruption, cults, and a whole host of other bad guys along the way was inspiring to say the least.

Once the book shifted back towards the east coast, I think it actually lost a bit of steam, but the ending was an impressive and unexpected finale, to say the least. I'll definitely be checking out more of Irving's writing in the future, particular if he keeps Rick at the helm of these adventures.
If you’re looking for a good thriller book, you’ve found it!

This book was more intense than I actually thought it would be. From the first chapter I found myself sucked and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I must say the suspense was absolutely fantastic. Terry Irving did a brilliant job in writing a plot that was gripping and captivating.
I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. It had the angst and mystery of a thriller book. I can honestly say that the book shocked me at times, which doesn't happen much anymore, and I loved that. There isn't a single thing wrong with the book. Not one!
This book is okay. Not my favorite but not bad either. The writing style was not my personal favorite. There were a lot of what I considered unnecessary details, that slowed down the story and just seem like fluff. I personally prefer a faster paced plot without as much tedious detail. If you are someone that enjoys this kind of writing, though, this would be a great book.

I was not familiar with the Wounded Knee incident but decided to do just a little research to give myself some background. In 1973, about 200 followers of the American Indian Movement seized and occupied the town of Wounded Knee, South Dakota. The siege lasted for about 70 days, with the US Marshals and FBI cordoning off the area and trying to negotiate. It finally came to an end with 2 killed and 15 wounded.

So the story is set in this time and stars Rick Putnam and his girlfriend Eve Buffalo Calf. They set out to try to deliver some material support to activist friends of hers, and eventually find themselves being hunted down by a vicious cult. The author does a good job of setting the scene and making you feel like you're really there. I've learned this book is actually a sequel (you can't tell- it reads just fine as a stand-alone) and I will probably read the first book soon. I think that might give me the background I need to enjoy this book more.
In this newest adventure for Rick Putnam, we see a decidedly different side of danger, and he is facing more primal and inexplicable enemies than political corruption and sinister doings in the highest echelons of power - at first. The motorcycle riding bad boy has a full plate once again and even more people relying on him than last time. He has nothing but his wits, his bike, and his endless boldness to overcome yet another group of cruel, selfish baddies that are seeking to destroy something precious and pure. The dichotomy between the beginning and end of this book is stark, displaying Irving's clear ability to handle an expansive book and a complex plot. His character work is exceptional, and readers have no choice but to root for the rugged hero who flies across the country like some sort of Hunter S. Thompson-inspired Robin Hood, helping those who can't help themselves. From politics and bureaucracy to cults, computer hackers, romance, and betrayal, this novel contains everything that an action-packed thriller needs - and then some.
